Spring at Artwine

SPRING IS HERE!

With outstandingly beautiful blossom this year (or is that just me looking for something bright and beautiful!!) and the onset of budburst we are looking very pretty all round. We are full of optimism after a year that just kept delivering challenge after challenge since the bushfires. What a year for us all to endure and with poor Melburnians still in lockdown - who would have thought this could have happened. What an unsettled world. But onwards and upwards it will end and life will remain beautiful.

During the last few months we have worked hard on the vineyard and property. Destroyed fences have been replaced and burnt vines replaced which are now happily shooting, so we hope that this vintage we will get through unscathed. We are also in the processof planting 3 new varieties (all new-emerging) so a bit of patience for a year or two and we will have more interesting wines to surprise you with!  Having said that watch this space as very soon, we will be releasing two different style wines in time for Christmas.  Cellar Door is back in as much as full swing as Covid guidelines allow but is starting to feel like the new normal.

We are starting to think all things Chritsmas now (Yes I know ... but it happens whether we like it or not lol) so if you are too, then remember we can host office functions here, contact Deb at Cellar Door for more information and we can tailor an event to your requirements - numbers of course are still a bit limited. We need things to celebrate this year and if you have been working from home you may need a good cath up!

Hope to see our SA locals in Cellar Door soon and hopefully with more borders opening up,our interstate wine loving folk too.

Meanwhile stay safe and watch for news of our two new releases coming soon.

Complimentary shipping on all orders of 6 packs or more throughout Australia ordered online or through Cellar Door

Cheers Judy & Glen and Deb

The Road to Recovery - Adelaide Hills

Its taken me a while to be able to write this as its still terrifying to so many of us. It has been the horror summer for so many Australians this year, one we all want to forget but hope its one that we can all learn from the disaster and change the way we manage the land. For the Adelaide Hills Wine region its been a devastating time losing approx 30% of their vines which is a tough pill to swallow after such low yields last year too. Each day we have inspected the vines and the baby vines damaged are all starting to reshoot quite well but sadly the older vines look worse and are detoriating daily, so looks like a good prune this year with very little or most likely no fruit for a couple of varieties sadly and patience for next year.

We were lucky in that the buildings were saved thanks to our amazing CFS firies and neighbours help, though the fire did reach to 8 metres to the rear of our home, way too close for comfort. Its still very raw and there are so many heartbreaking stories ... BUT the one thing that has kept us all going has been the amazing community spirit, its been the big hug that we all needed. We are lucky to have amazing neighbours and community here in Woodside who have all gathered together and supported one another which is how we should all be living. Its certainly brought us all closer which is a great thing!

Some images below of our burnt vines, our totally burnt woodlot and some of the amazing helpers we had to assist us in clearing up, they are pruning our fried olive trees - no crops for a couple of years from these either.

I want to give a huge shoutout to Blaze Aid who are assisting the communities in replacing all the burnt fences, they do an incredible job, more unsung heroes, I cannot imagine how many thousands of kilometres of fencing have been destroyed throughout the country.

Onwards and upwards for the beautiful Adelaide HIlls which is shooting green everywhere now, nature can be cruel but is also inspiring! And... we still have lots of really good wines available!

Cheers Judy & Glen and the Artwine Team

Something in the Wine - Book Launch

Join us for an evening of wine, cheese and literature.

Artwine are proud to host the launch of bestselling Australian author, Tricia Stringer's latest release, 'Something in the Wine'.

The book is set in a fictitious Margaret River vineyard and includes a link to an Adelaide Hills winery producing a very special Spanish variety, Albarino.

“Keely Mitchell is taking a holiday to escape realities at home she’d rather not face but when she ends up at Levallier Dell Winery she’s caught in the middle of a tug-of-war between father and son wine makers, Euan and Flynn Levallier.
A warm-hearted rural romance, this time set among the scenic vineyards of Margaret River wine country”.

As the only producer of Albarino in the Adelaide Hills, Artwine owner Judy Kelly will be launching the book and giving guests an insight into the viticulture and quirky history of Albarino in Australia.

Guests will be treated to a glass of Albarino on arrival, a selection of local cheese with accompaniments and, of course, a few words from the author herself.

Matilda’s Bookshop will have copies of Tricia’s books for sale on the night which the author will be happy to sign.

One lucky attendee will WIN a copy of Something in the Wine and a bottle of our (almost) sold out 'The Real Thing' Albarino.

Please RSVP via cellardoor@artwine.com.au as places are limited.

Doors will open from 6.30pm for a 7pm start.

The Doghouse Merlot Wins the Trophy!

Thrilled to have recently won the Trophy for our Doghouse Merlot at the Australia & New Zealand Boutique Wine Awards, accepted at a wonderful event in Sydney.

Our Adelaide Hills Merlot is a complex well structured wine showing delicious fruit flavours of fleshy plums, mulberries and juicy berry fruit with a touch of spice, chocolate and cherries. An elegant wine that is vibrant and well balanced with a soft dry finish and lush velvety tannins. Available online and at Cellar Door.

The Real Thing, Albariño

An exciting week for us and the Adelaide Hills Wine Region. The release of our first "The Real Thing" Albariño from our Woodside vineyard! Now available online and from Saturday 26th May in Cellar Door.

Why have we called it "The Real Thing"? - the first vines thought to be Albariño and planted were later discovered by the CSIRO that they were actually Savagnin. We were nearly caught up in that debacle but just missed it and planted our beloved Fiano instead. Well .... its been a 9 year wait but now we have "the real thing" right here in a bottle! A huge wait for us but to produce this delicious wine is so very exciting for us and we have created a first for the Adelaide Hills.

Review by Dan Traucki, Wine Writer - "As it happens, the ARTWINE ADELAIDE HILLS 2018 “THE REAL THING” ALBARINO is an absolute cracking wine! Naming the wine “THE REAL THING” is brilliantly appropriate after the 2008-2009 scandal when it was discovered that most of the Albariño planted in Australia was in fact, Savagnin. It is redolent with enticing aromas of citrus and a smidge of steeliness. Is zippy, crisp, bright with delightful citrus flavours and a palate cleansing, lingering finish.  A CLASS ACT!"

Cheers and we hope you love it!
