Spring is here, the blossom is in full flight and the days are becoming warmer, so we have turned our attention to all things Spring and what that means. It is the beginning of a new season for us, bud burst is happening in the vines and we are looking forward to a great vintage ahead - fingers crossed as long as the weather and all other external elements work with us.
Sadly many vignerons have already suffered badly with early Spring frosts and we truly feel for them all, to have frost so early in the season could mean devastating losses for many in SA. Fortunately we are unscathed and luckily never have had frost in either our Adelaide Hills vineyard here in Woodside or our "piece of gold" as our Clare vineyard was descibed last week by a local viticulturist. We wish every body well and as I often say you need to be tough to be a farmer and thats the difference between those who buy fruit and those who are estate grown as we are and have planted and nurtured from the ground up.
The wines we are currently choosing to drink are the lighter style reds whilst the weather is still cool in the evenings such as Smiling Gamay, Grumpy Old Man Grenache and our new Doghouse Sangiovese. I do like my whites all year round but found I have been choosing the more textural whites with a fuller palate such as our delicious Masterpiece, Grenache Gris which I am totally in love with, Spanish Queen, Albarino, In the Groove, Grüner Veltliner and of course our much loved and awarded Wicked Stepmother, Fiano. I wlll soon though be adding in more delicious whites (we do have numerous to choose from 😊) and our new Prosecco sparkling which is totally yummy.
A busy month has just been completed moving into a new warehouse which will be great, and has been a bit of work for to organise. However we are now settled in and it will make life a lot easier in the long run.
Thank you to our great guests and members for all your support and visitation and as SA warms up we look forward to seeing many more of you at Cellar Door for a wine in the sun and just a reminder that we are dog friendly to friendly dogs, open daily 11am to 5pm, serving a selection of wonderful local food produce platters, and seated tasting wine experiences and sales.
So get those taste buds into summer mode and bring them to us for a tasting tour of the Mediterranean - no passport required.
See you soon.
Cheers Judy and the Artwine team.
